You can earn a fully accredited bachelor’s degree from home in a less than a year if you work on it. There are numerous correspondence schools in the country. Many are very expensive, they give you tons of coursework, and some of them are unaccredited. Some colleges charge you the same tuition rate as if you were an on-campus student, which is often over $15k per year. It is simply the best non-residential college in the world. You can work at your own pace, it has very flexible ways of earning credit, and it has very affordable fees. Their academic counselors are nice and helpful. You can call them during business hours and they will answer whatever questions you may have.
At Excelsior College, the fastest way to earn credits is credit by exams. There is an exam program called CLEP (College Level Examination Program) which is administered by the College Board. You basically take a two hour test and earn 3 or 6 credits if you pass. They have tests in many subjects, ranging from history to psychology to biology and many more. Excelsior will grant you a letter grade of A, B, or C depending on your score. There are currently 33 different CLEP exams and you can take as many as you want. Excelsior College also has their own exam program, with each exam granting 3-6 credits. You can take them at a local Thompson Learning Center, which has a contract to proctor Excelsior College exams. There is also a way you can earn 30 credits in one day. It is by taking a GRE (Graduate Record Exam) subject test. Depending on your score, Excelsior will grant you from 0-30 credits.
Excelsior College has a registrar which records each students progress and credits. Their annual enrollment fee is $835, and you can take tests and work at your own pace. After each CLEP or other test, you fill out a short form which instructs the testing institution to send an exam report to Excelsior. For a small fee, Excelsior will send official transcripts to other colleges, graduate schools, and employers. After you earn 120 credits and met the degree requirements, they will send you a college diploma. They will invite you to their graduation ceremony in Albany, which is in June of every year. At graduation, you can meet your academic counselors and fellow alumni for the first time. Some graduates are very emotional, and I saw some of them with tears of joy. It’s like they finally made their huge achievement by earning their fast college degree and can move on.
